Periodontal Disease

It’s a fact: over 47% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal (gum) disease. This statistic and the reality of living with the harmful effects of gum disease greatly impacted Brenda Piraino’s daily life. With increasing pain and deteriorating teeth preventing even the simple act of eating or smiling confidently, Brenda’s progressing gum disease was quickly taking a toll on her daily life.

“After numerous costly office visits to treat my cracking teeth with multiple root canals and caps that were ineffective in the long run, I knew I needed a complete new set of upper teeth — but I knew it would be a serious investment financially,” explained Brenda, a long-time Clevelander. “I wanted to be sure I was investing in the best care possible.”

Research and several interviews with numerous periodontal practices led Brenda to Morgan & Lemke Periodontics & Dental Implants for All-on-4 dental implants. Also known as “Teeth in a Day,” All-on-4 is a revolutionary technique that allows for an entire arch of damaged or severely decayed teeth to be replaced with dental implants in just one visit. For Brenda, Dr. Morgan’s expertise eased her mind that All-on-4 was the answer she had been looking for.

“Dr. Morgan was the most knowledgeable, credited and most importantly, compassionate periodontist I met with,” Brenda said. “Because of him and his team, I’m pain free and can eat anything now. It has been so long since I was able to just simply bite into an apple. I have to learn how to smile again and that’s a good thing!”

Here are answers to the top questions about why All-on-4 dental implants are the gold standard for treating periodontal disease cases like Brenda, and thousands of others:

What are All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 dental implants are an implant-supported teeth that replace an upper or lower set of teeth. The teeth have multiple titanium posts that are inserted into your jaw at predetermined points. The visible portion of the implant is constructed from the highest quality material offered today, Prettau® Zirconia can markedly improve esthetics. Color-matched to any existing teeth, All-on-4 dental implants are known for transforming smiles and restoring confidence overnight. “I’m thrilled with the aesthetics of the product — they look and feel like natural teeth,” stated Brenda.

Who is a suitable candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?

All-on-4 dental implants are an ideal solution for patients who are missing all or most of their teeth in their upper/lower jaw, those who have a removable prosthesis (dentures), but are frustrated with the limitations that it offers, and those who are facing loss of teeth due to severe periodontal disease,
Before scheduling an All-on-4 implant surgery, Drs. Morgan and Lemke work with your dentist or can recommend a dentist for a comprehensive consultation to ensure the solution is right for you. “I was very nervous and embarrassed during the initial consultation,” Brenda explains. “Dr. Morgan and his team was very patient with me. I came packed with questions and each one was answered — they didn’t make me feel rushed at all.”

Why are All-on-4 dental implants better than dentures?

Dental implants are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the unique benefits they have over traditional dentures, including:

  • Secure. Implants are a permanent solution. Once in place, you can eat and drink what you like, laugh, cough, sing, kiss and even sneeze, and the implants will not move an inch.
  • Comfortable. Unlike dentures, which are known for rubbing the gum and making it sore, implants are so comfortable it doesn’t take long before you forget they aren’t your natural teeth.
  • Discreet. Dentures sometimes have to be removed in order to perform certain activities. Alternatively, implants are permanent and offer the ultimate discretion.
  • Robust. Dental implants still need to be well looked after, but with the right care and attention they could last you a lifetime.
  • Health. Dental implants save valuable bone and have been shown to improve overall oral health and quality of life.

Are dental implants painful?
While dental implants are a surgical procedure that require requires work below the gums, a local anesthetic numbs the area so you’ll feel no discomfort. The procedure is actually easier than a dental filling procedure, with the most discomfort you could feel is pressure. Once space is created for the implant, the implant is placed. Afterwards you may possibly have a quick dissolving suture placed and the healing process begins. Over the counter pain medication is more than adequate for any minor discomfort while the healing process occurs, with patients typically experiencing little to not pain.

“There was no pain whatsoever after surgery — I was only out of work for a couple of days,” says Brenda. “After the healing process, I remember taking my first bite of an apple without any pain. I was on top of the world!”
